Why:
In 2018 I launched Brea Box. After working in the fashion industry for several years and volunteering for sustainable fashion organizations, my friends and I couldn’t easily find affordable sustainable clothes. People wanted to find sustainable options but didn’t know where to shop. I started Brea Box to make shopping for sustainable clothes easier.
What:
Brea Box started off with an intake survey so the stylist (me), could learn the customer’s tastes, color preferences, sizing and budget. After one week customerss received a curated box with 5-6 clothing items sourced from sustainable and/or local brands several from the Bay Area.
How:
Out of my small studio apartment, I styled and packed orders. I worked with a team to produce creative assets such as photography & graphic design. Photography by Danielle Colen, branding and design in collaboration with Sadie Williams. Fulfilled over 100 orders.

User Surveys
Customers started their journey with our style survey. This survey asked them their tastes, sizing and feelings about sustainable fashion and what aspects of it were a priority to them (vegan, natural fibers, second-hand, etc.).
Order Fulfillment
In 5-7 business days customers would receive their curated box filled with clothes and accessories from our partners including local and sustainable brands like Wray NYC, Soko Jewelry, Hackwith House, Gravel & Gold, TaylorStitch and Selva Negra.
Order Fulfillment
Clothing was packed and shipped along with a small pouch of sustainable accessories and their mini ‘zine.
Brand Partnerships
Originally, Brea Box was a styling service. A customer survey would arrive, and I’d have to go shopping from sustainable brands.
I learned from talking to 6 different designers in the area, that at the end of the season many of them were left with excess inventory they couldn’t sell.
I resold the excess to Brea Box customers at sample sale prices.
Influencer Partnerships
After forming brand partnerships, forming influencer partnerships with sustainable influencers helped customers learn how to style their pieces and brought in a steady flow of new users.

Final Product
Users could order a one-time box or subscribe for any interval of time and receive a monthly, quarterly or biannual box if they wished.
Brea Box had over 100 orders and two dozen regular subscribers.
‘Zine
Our team created a mini magazine to be inserted in each new customer’s box to help educated them on sustainability and introduce them to new brands.
